Situation of TB - India

The TB burden in India is staggering. Every year, 1.8 million persons develop the disease, of which about 800,000 are infectious; and, until recently, 370,000 died of it annually —1,000 every day.
Estimated incidence is 75 new smear positive PTB cases/1lakh population per year
The disease is a major barrier to social and economic development. An estimated 100 million workdays are lost due to illness. Society and the country also incur a huge cost due to TB—nearly US$ 3 billion in indirect costs and US$ 300 million in direct costs.

Situation of TB Uttarakhand

No State Specific Survey have been done but the NTI has done Zonal ARI Surveys

Uttarakhand (North Zone) The estimated Total TB Cases are 257/Lac per year and 95 New Smear Pos./Lac per year

The Revised National TB Control Programme is based on the the DOTS strategy.

DOTS implementation Framework

District Level

> 13 District TB Centers are the focal points for programme implementation

Mobility for the DTOs , Computer, Photocopier, Fax provided to all districts

Sub district Level

> 30 TB Units established (2.5 Lac population each)
> Each TU - Drug Store built, One STS, One STLS appointed & a 2 wheeler provided
> 144 MC’s established (50,000 population each)- for diagnostic services
> Each MC - Lab Renovated, One Binocular Microscope, & all the Lab Consumables. Lab Technicians trained. – 70 SM- LT’s on contractual basis
> More than 2000 DOTS Centres/ Providers for treatment services
> Establishment of 2 divisional Drug Stores
